What does it cost?
- Web site development and maintenance. Initial web site development for a simple web site similar to this one,
will run about $150 - $300. That includes submitting the new site to search engines and
local "community" sites. Minor modifications will be made at no charge for the
first 30 days after the site is up and running. After that, maintenance will be billed at
a rate of $25 per hour.
- Domain name.
Domain names (www.yourwebsite.com) must be
registered annually. These fees have come down over the years as
competition has developed among the registrars. We have resources that can
provide this service for under $10/year (when purchased two years at a
time).
- Domain hosting. There are a couple of ways to handle this, each
with it's own cost and peculiarities:
- ISP user space. If you
have Internet service, you probably have some free user space the service provider (ISP)
allows for you to house your own personal web site. You can use this space for your
business site, but it will not have a domain name of the form www.mybusiness.com. Instead,
it will have a form something like www.myisp.net/~mylogin. The only disadvantage to this
is that your domain name has no name relationship with your business. The advantage is
that it costs you nothing over and above what you are already paying for ISP service. One
word of caution here: Check with your ISP to make sure your user space may be used for
your business site. A few ISP do not allow user space to be used for commercial sites.
- Regular domain name hosting. This solution requires you to pay an Internet hosting company to host
your web site and you must pay that company a monthly or annual fee for that service. For small web
sites such as the ones Scissortail Web Designs develops, hosting companies are charging
about $15-25 per month, but we have proven resources that
provide hosting for less than $15 per year for a
site up to 200Mb! With this solution, your domain name is the
website address: www.mydomainname.com. With prices this low, there is
really no reason not to use this solution.
